CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Instructions:

First time flashing CyanogenMod 9.0 your device, or coming from another ROM?

• Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
• Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
• Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
• Perform a factory reset.
• Flash CyanogenMod.
• Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 9?

• Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
• Flash CyanogenMod (your Google Apps will be backed up & restored automatically).

Issues?

Experience issues? Please provide the following info to our bug tracker:

• If the device was hard reboot, please provide the file "/proc/last_kmsg".

Bei XDA gefunden:

Läuft allerdings NOCH NICHT für das Desire HD. Touch z.B. funktioniert nicht, weil die Rom für das Inspire 4G ist. Fordert also noch etwas Geduld...

Ice Cream Sandwich werden wir aber in vollem Funktionsumfang kriegen, Jelly Bean mit Sicherheit nur, wenn einige Entwickler was feines hinkriegen.
Also geben wir uns erstmal mit CM9 zufrieden
Wobei es schon jemanden bei xda gibt, der Tester für eine Jelly Bean ROM gesucht hat ^^

Warum denkst du das? Laut dem Artikel bei Androidpit soll JB in Form von CM10 für alle Geräte kommen, die auch CM9 bekommen.

Ich denke mal der Sourceunterschied ist wesentlich kleiner wie beim Wechsel von GB zu ICS. Das einzige Problem dürften die Kameratreiber etc sein, falls HTC (was zu erwarten wäre) das Desire HD "nur" auf ICS updated. Falls sich da aber nicht soo viel geändert hat bekommen das die XDAler schon hin.


OT: Die Updateproblematik hat mich eigentlich nie gestört. Als es nur Froyo fürs DHD gab, konnte man per CR auf GB. Jetzt kann man immerhin schon eine Weile an ICS schnuppern.

Aber auf eine funktionierende Rom zu warten, obwohl schon wieder der Nachfolger vorgestellt wurde, nervt wirklich etwas.. (nicht als Kritik an den Developern gedacht)

Hätte das Nexus bei uns 32GB, hätte ich schon längst zu geschlagen

IceColdSandwich hat ja fast einen kompletten Funktionsumfang erreicht. Videos in 480p gehen, sogar mit Stock Camera, laufen auch flüssig. Kamera funktioniert ja schon länger. Gut, die Reboots sind nicht gerade der Bringer, aber passieren auch nur noch selten.

Mal hoffen, dass HTC bald das Update bringt und wir CM9 kriegen :)

Viele klagen über nicht funktionierenden Home Button. Außerdem sind viele der Ansicht, dass es nicht CM9 heißen sollte, da es das nicht ist. Sie sagen, es sei AOSP und fälschlicherweise als CM9 bezeichnet. Ich werde das weiter beobachten
