We have thoroughly reviewed your feedback and have added some comments on each issue.

Problems & Bugs report from LG Arena forum

LGE Comment:

1 GPS doesn't work or works with bugs (it shows you on other continents or kilometers from the right place, takes some minutes to lock satellites and sometimes doesn't lock them at all)

We have tested and found that the GPS works normally. However, you may be experiencing this problem to due the location the device is operating in. To check whether the problem occurs only in a specific area or everywhere, we require information about the location.

2 The beck case of the arena blocks the GPS signal, to have a better signal you have to scratch the part of it that is in contact with the GPS antenna *

3 When you turn off the phone and start it back, the phone processor downgrade itself and the phone became slower for about 30%, to fix that you have to start the phone attached to the charger (than the phone starts and it¡¯s not downgraded)

We have thoroughly tested this issue using various methods. However, this problem is not reproducible under normal conditions. To check whether it occurs only with one particular phone or with all models, we require the content and memory dump of the mobile phone in question.

4 Camera flash, shutter sound and shot aren't working in the same time, there is a 2 sec. delay

It is difficult to make the camera flash, play the shutter sound and create the photo simultaneously. Basically there is a slight delay in the flash, so that the camera flash activates when the shutter is fully open. In most cases, there is a very slight delay, but they do work almost simultaneously. The camera has been tuned to improve this issue during mass production.

5 Screen has sometimes a blur effect, and you can see *time and wallpaper thru all menus

This problem seems to be due to a specific part of the LCD screen.

6 Wi-Fi connections drop down when other devices pings the connection, than you have to reconnect manually (it is very annoying if you are in some school or public place where there is allot of people that are pinging)

The problem seems to occur when multiple devices are connected to a single Wi-Fi access point. To check whether there is a problem in AP performance or compatibility, we require information about the access point in question

7 when contact is saved, date of birthday / anniversary is removed

This problem is not reproducible under normal conditions. Please check whether it occurs only in a specific condition.

8 when volume of streaming player is changed, Profiles are destroyed

The volume of the streaming player works independently from the volume control of the Profile in Arena. The streaming volume is controlled separately, and its saved volume setting is used regardless of the volume set in the Profile.

9 when files in My stuff are sorted by date, all dates have the same month as month of top-first date

We need to investigate this issue in further detail to understand the exact cause. We will include a fix for this issue in the next Maintenance Release after debugging. We apologize for any inconvenience.

10 sometimes freezing

Through the DOA analysis, many of the issues relating to the device freezing have been improved. When the device takes a long time to process data, depending on your current environment, this is also recognized as a freezing issue.

11 Very slow accelerometer response

When changing the screen to either landscape or portrait mode through the device driver, the changing signal is faster when compared to other companies' devices. However, the changing speed may differ depending on the individual UI screen, and you may find it fast or slow depending on your individual preferences.

(Please note that the screen mode of the Top Menu changes faster when compared to other companies' devices.)

12 Fix problems for YouTube over WI-FI

This problem has been fixed for models released after May 2009.

13 Video resolution of YouTube is very low

Arena supports RTSP streaming, but it only supports a resolution of 176 x 144 for YouTube RTSP streaming. Arena only plays the clip information which is transferred from the streaming server (YouTube RTSP streaming). (Other companies' devices also support the same resolution for YouTube RTSP streaming.)

Currently, most models use RTSP streaming, but only the iPhone uses HTTP streaming. No models, other than the iPhone, use HTTP Streaming. Google has no future plans to support HTTP streaming.

14 YouTube buffering is too slow and you can¡¯t stop the video and let it load. When you pause video, buffering is stopped too

Arena has a fixed initial buffer size for its stable streaming service. The buffering speed varies depending on your network.

You can pause streaming content during buffering. However, this issue then occurs because RTSP streaming is paused after the pause command is sent to the RTSP server. (Other companies' devices experience the same issue.)

15 When you change volume in YouTube player, profiles are destroyed and you have to do factory reset

The volume of the streaming player works independently from the volume control of the Profile in Arena. The streaming volume is controlled separately, and its saved volume setting is used regardless of the volume set in the Profile.


16 PC Suite can¡¯t back up apps and games, settings and sms

Currently, LG PC Suite III is designed to back up only internal content (e.g. images, videos, music, documents, Contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos).

17 Zoom function in browser focusing top left, rather than desired positio

You may find it inconvenient depending on your individual preferences. The zoom function on all LG models focuses the top left corner by default.

18 Messaging is very slow and often doesn't register touches in both vertical and landscape modes. You can¡¯t write fast, because then the phone doesn¢¥t recognize all letters that you are pressing!

While the device is changing between portrait and landscape modes, touch recognition may not work. This is deliberate, and is intended to reduce usability errors.

19 Accelerometer very slow or unresponsive

21 Documents folder opened from shortcut on home screen is always sorted by date, "Sort by" option is not saved

22 delete old schedules from calendar (Organizer >> Menu >> Delete schedules >> Previous schedules) rewrite all birthday / anniversary dates in contacts to the current date, if this b/a dates are linked to calendar

24 Dolby Mobile / equalizers don't work for music playing from Multimedia screen

Dolby Mobile does not work when playing music on the Multimedia screen. This function only works in the music player. However, you can enable the Dolby Mobile function when playing video on the Multimedia screen.

25 if selected date in calendar is 29, 30 or 31 and then go to month February, calendar crashes (close itself)

We have thoroughly tested this issue using various methods. However, this problem is not reproducible under normal conditions. We require more information about each case.

26 if music from Multimedia screen is played, then settings for standard music player as selected playlist, type of play (random / automatic) and "Sort by" for playlists are lost. Player is reset to: All tracks / Automatic play once (track by

29 if reply to long HTML formatted e-mail, then after few rows of text the response of keyboard become very slow and write long reply is very annoying. This bug is not present, if original e-mail is in PLAIN TEXT format.

An HTML message usually contains more information than a plain-text message and takes longer to process. Because a reply also includes the original message, additional operation time is required.

33 if some computer is saved to the list of Bluetooth devices and another computer is added, Arena rewrite previously saved PC in the list instead adding second PC as next device...

34 sometimes, if video is palyed and then closed, display (backlight) stays turned on, permanently. Is need manually lock screen by top hardware key, then display turn off. This bug is not present, if auto-lock screen is enabled.

LGE Comment:

1 remove 320x240 resolution limit for DivX/XviD

We apologize for any inconvenience. Please understand that the resolution is limited to the optimal resolution of the chip used in Arena.

2 remove or increase limit for number of favorites on Multimedia screen

Currently, the maximum number of favorites has been set and cannot be increased due to the home screen's memory limit. We will try to address this issue in future models.

3 don't create copy of contacts images to root Images folder (let Arena respect location of image and don't create new copy, if image has proper size)

When you set a large image for a contact, you will be asked to resize it. This allows you to use the call function and the Contact menu without compromising their performance.

4 remove annoying message about "9x% of sms storage capacity is used" for each received SMS. Better may be only one warning at e.g. 99% or indicate it by non-obstructive icon on system topbar

When the message box is full, you are notified by an alert message. This allows you to delete old messages so you can receive new messages.

5 sound option for new received e-mails

You can use the "New email notification" option in the email setting. If this option is On, an alarm sound is played.

6 show songs in music player as artists / titles, not as filenames

Only the Artist List sorting option is supported. We hope to add the option to sort by title in future models.

7 option "show as filenames" for Images and Videos folders

To provide an intuitive user interface, the S-class User Interface displays image and video files only in thumbnail view. However, if you find this inconvenient, we will try to address this issue in future models.

8 option for folders / files "don't show in gallery"

Gallery is designed not to support a folder structure to help the intuitive management of image/video files. Folder structure-based file management is supported in My Stuff.

9 Add buttons for some often used functions next to existing buttons (e.g. why music player has long random play button over all display width and for search is needed tap on menu? why e-mail app has long new mail button and for check new mail is needed tap on menu?)

The button location in Arena is designed using the S-class User Interface concept. However, if you find this inconvenient, we willl try to address this issue in future models. Thank you for your feedback.

10 create thumbnails for videos from e.g. 100. frame, because first frame is for many videos only black rectangle

Arena does not currently support theme change. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We should have determined whether or not to support the "Hide keypad" option for each Java application, but it is difficult to identify the status of each application. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Landscape mode is available only for some essential functions. Editor uses the landscape mode by default.

14 Tag-it and Handwriting aren¡¯t in all firmwares

This option is supported for some languages that are difficult to type, such as Chinese.

15 A button to turn on the flash light is needed, so you can use it in case of need (if it can be always on when you start it from the video camera, why don¡¯t made a button for it)

The Video camera has the Quick Flash menu on the left side. The flash button is not available because it may result in undesired power consumption when it is pressed accidentally.

16 music player:multiple playlists support
proper sortingproper minimizing... so you can do other thing while listening to the music

Multiple Playlist, Sorting, and Minimizing (background music) options are currently available.

17 more shortcuts in the shortcuts desktop

You can set a maximum of 9 shortcuts. This is because the S-class UI shortcut concept does not allow scrolling in the Home screen. Increasing this number makes the icon size proportionately smaller, and touch usability becomes difficult. Thank you for your feedback.

18 no more "out of memory" messages, while browsing, or trying to open PDF/DOC/TXT files

This message is displayed when there is not enough memory available during use. To resolve the issue, you need to add physical memory.

19 more usable side buttons... for example while browsing (zoom in zoom out, or scroll up, scroll down)

We appreciate your feedback. We will take it into account for the development of future models.

20 Open widgets installation... we should be able to add widgets... as some already did, widgets could be changed, but not added... it would be nice at least to open this option, so people can write widgets themselves, when you don¡¯t want to

Arena does not allow widgets to be downloaded. We will address this issue in future models.

21 release the source code of the phone's OS... it¡¯s already known, that the OS is Linux based... by GPL you have to provide the whole sources for your Linux based software, and that is covered by GPL. Android and Symbian are open source and they are every day better

Arena uses the LG proprietary OS. Therefore, we are sorry that we cannot open its source code.

22 easy firmware upgrade - option for using open firmwares

A firmware upgrade is currently available via Web download. Web download is a common method being used in all LG models.

23 have random mp3 player

MP3 shuffle is currently available.

24 have more radio stations presets

thirty radio stations are currently available to meet the S-class UI design concept. We will take your opinion into account for the development of future models.

25 manual gallery library settings (where to search for media files, and what types of files to search for) or change the predefined folders for the external memory where images and movies are searched, or at least LG should say which are these folders, since we think the arena searches the whole card, and first this take quite long to initialize and second, because we surely don't want to have all my We Travel images or Album Arts from the memory card in the gallery

There is a developer support site at developer.lgmobile.com. We also provide a forum and Support Ticket where you can ask a question to our developers directly. We hope you will visit often.

30 shortcuts for java apps on home screens

Shortcuts are provided for the most frequently used functions. The decision to create a shortcut is also based on usability. A shortcut key is not available for the Java application because its frequency of use is relatively lower in comparison to other menus. We apologize for any inconvenience.

31 search function for SMS

Arena does not support this function. We will take your opinion into account for the development of future models.

Ist doch schon mal ein Fortschritt, dass die überhaupt antworten.
Bei einem Großteil jedoch hat es wohl nichts gebracht.
Anstatt einige Sachen, die sicher firmwarebedingt sind, zu ändern, versprechen sie, es bei den nächsten Handys, die sie herausbringen werden zu ändern.

Was ist denn das für eine Mentalität? Da behaupten die doch glatt, dass es nur eine individuelle Vorliebe ist, wenn man den Zoom-Focus zwischen den Fingern anstatt der oberen linken Ecke hätte??? Und wenn das OS tatsächlich auf Linux basiert verstoßen die gegen die GPL. Warum haben die dann noch die Frechheit, trotzdem starr zu behaupten es sei eine eigene Entwicklung? Ich denke die halten uns für richtig dumm.

(Bis jetzt ist GPS Global die selbe Geschichte, mit den selben Satelliten, welche unseren noch schönen Planeten umkreisen. Und die wollen uns erzählen dass GPS in Europa vielleicht anders ist? Mit GPS ist es egal wo du dich befindest, es ist immer verfügbar. Egal ob Sahara, Amazonas, Aserbaidshan oder bei Oma am Kaffeetisch!)

Das sollten wir uns nicht gefallen lassen. Nicht nur dass die uns belügen und für dumm verkaufen wollen. Auch , dass sie wahrscheinlich offenes Gedankengut stehlen. Kann jemand den 100%-igen Beweis dafür aufbringen und erklären dass, sowie warum das ARENA-OS LINUX-basiert ist?

Da das einzige RTOS von Mentor das Nucleus ist, hab ich mich auf deren seiten und wiki etwas umgeschaut und habe dort keinerlei hinweise darauf gefunden ob es nun wirklich Linux based ist oder nicht.
Weiß einer zufällig mit sicherheit das es ein Linux basierendes OS ist?
