The product of 9 years of continuous improvements, Pleco is the definitive Chinese dictionary for iPhone, featuring a spectacular range of both free and paid dictionary databases, wonderful and unique features like a fullscreen Chinese handwriting recognizer, extremely fast searches, fantastic Pinyin support (no need to enter spaces / tones or even finish the last syllable), flexible search types like wildcards, full-text, and mixed characters/Pinyin, stroke order diagrams, audio pronunciation, and a built-in document reader allowing you to easily look up unknown words both in text files and in dictionary definitions (along with limited support for looking them up in web pages and Word documents).

Most of the features from our software on other platforms have also been implemented in this iPhone version; the only significant things missing are flashcard and user-created dictionary support, but those should both arrive in an update in early 2010 (as a paid add-on).

This FREE basic version of Pleco includes one built-in dictionary (the "Pleco Basic Chinese-English Dictionary," based on "A Chinese-English Dictionary" edited by Wei Dongya), the Unihan Chinese character reference database, and the ability to download several other free dictionaries (CC-CEDICT, HanDeDict, DeHanDict, Adsotrans, LDC) from within the app. Other dictionaries - the ABC Chinese-English Comprehensive, Tuttle Learner's Chinese-English, ABC English-Chinese, NWP English-Chinese, 21st Century English-Chinese, and the Chinese-Chinese Xiandai Hanyu Guifan Cidian among others - can be purchased as add-ons within the app. Fullscreen handwriting, stroke order diagrams, audio pronunciation, and the document reader are also available as paid add-ons.
